Rest and Renew
The gentle trilling from an orchestra of insects interspersed with the croaking of frogs and the occasional haunting cries of owls is a soothing and entirely natural symphony to fall asleep to.
In keeping with the Sanctuary low impact philosophy, buildings are designed and constructed to ensure that the vegetation and birdlife is disturbed as little as possible. Additionally to minimise ongoing greenhouse gas emissions, the natural cooling effect of the rainforest was incorporated into the designs so that air-conditioning is not required and more than adequate cooling is produced from cross ventilation and ceiling fans.
Two unique and contrasting styles of accommodation (Rainforest Huts & Canopy Cabins) are offered at Sanctuary to suit all tastes and budgets.
Relax and Recreate
Greet the sunrise over the sparkling ocean, experience the many moods of the forest as the light chances throughout the day, until the sun disappears from view over the distant hills to the west from this magical ridge-top location.
In a terraced garden surrounded by towering trees awaits a tranquil pool for that refreshing plunge or sunbathe on the timber deck.
Relax in the shade or sun all day, hidden deep in the forest, though only a stone’s throw away from the Longhouse, accommodation and Retreat Centre.
Step underneath the canopy of majestic rainforest trees and rare ferns and experience the timeless wonder of this ancient forest. Extensive walking trails weave through the rainforest, across a trickling creek and through a sheltered gully.
Of course there is always the chance of a real-life encounter as the trails are also popular short cuts for the resident Cassowaries. Emerge from the canopy to discover the beautiful forest lined, Brooks Beach so secluded that, more than likely, you will be enjoying it on your own.
… I have run eight yoga retreats at Sanctuary and people consistently remark at the fresh, delicious, and healthy food which is adapted to everyone’s particular needs as well as the setting for all activities at Sanctuary… I’ve come to learn that many factors make up a great retreat, the setting, the food, the facilities, and the program. Sanctuary has it all and i can’t wait to return for the next experience!
We have been hosting our annual 4 Day Reiki Retreat for 10 years now at the Sanctuary Retreat Mission Beach.
What an amazing place!
The food is fantastic, the staff is super friendly and helpful and you just can’t help fall in love with the surroundings of the retreat place.
This is the perfect place to host your retreat.
Arriving at the Sanctuary is like taking a deep, nourishing breath… the forest setting and the simple, tasteful setting of the buildings helps to blend out the outside world and to shed the pressure of daily life.
Surrounded by lush green and bird calls, the yoga space cocoons a sense of tuning in that seems to arise all by itself.
